With over 220 live act’s across 40 venues, WAMFest returns once again to celebrate all that is great in West Australian music. The support and commitment WAM provides local artists offers them a platform which to promote themselves, perform locally, cultivate a reputation, gain recognition and mature creatively. From singer-songwriters to hard rockers, WAMFest showcases the best of WA music and has something on offer for every Perth music fan this weekend!
Here’s a couple of must see acts we at Avenoir recommend checking out:
THE SEWING ROOM PRESENTS
7pm – 11.30pm Friday
Hosted by one of Perth’s newest venues, The Sewing Room basement will be bursting at the seams with fresh talent this Friday. For a bargain $20 you’ll see mesmerising singer-songwriter Jacob Diamond, who won Best Male Vocalist at last year’s WAM Awards, psych-punk rockers and headliners Hideous Sun Demon, as well as rap prodigy Reef Prince. Head down early to catch the lesser known but certainly no lesser talents of beat instrumentalists Grievous Bodily Calm, Albany-based singer-songwriter Carla Geneve and more.
7pm – Midnight Friday
It’s a rock-fest on the beachfront on Friday with Indi Bar and El Grotto teaming up to deliver a night to remember. Blue’s rock is provided by local legends Old Blood and newcomers Death By Denim, with a psych-rock spin thanks to the Tame Impala-inspired Marmalade Mama. Make sure you check out the powerhouse vocalist that is Elli Schoen – usually based in Fremantle, she’s ventured up the WA coastline to Scarborough for this one. There are many more artists and bands playing too so get on down!
4pm – 11pm Saturday
The biggest show of WAMFest, curated to perfection. The Lot Party is an all-day-two stage affair taking place in Perth’s Cultural Centre next to Yagan Square. It’s talent back-to-back all day, but the end of the night looks to be the most exciting with a punk-rock party from 9pm. Catch BOAT SHOW, The Southern River Band, Foam, Psychedelic Foam Crumpets and more back to back – all ages and fully licensed. Expect the mosh pit to get wild and the emu exports to fly.
6pm – 1am Saturday
Badlands have made a name for themselves in Perth over the last year as the place to go for rock and roll. This Saturday they’ve outdone themselves with a massive showcase of some of WA’s hottest acts. Key acts to see include Childsaint, fresh off their support of The Jezabels in Fremantle last weekend, hyped (and deservedly so) indie-rockers Pat Chow and tranquil neo-soul outfit Demon Days with many more artists also taking stage. Plus, stay up late with The Love Junkie’s take over for the After Party at midnight.
