Perth, Get your Fringe On

Fringe World comes around once a year – and once a year the people of Perth are given free reign to emerge from their post-Christmas food coma, to engage in a celebration of the witty, weird and downright wonderful.

The Fringe Festival, will operate from 12 major hubs, encompassing both north, south and central Perth. You’ll find a plethora of entertainment during the festival, held between January 20th & February 19th.

Here’s a tiny glimpse of the remarkable you could immerse yourself in this year.

  • “Australia: A Whinging Pom’s Guide” [Brass Monkey Hotel]

Moving to Australia 6 years ago, Dan Willis – renowned British comic – shares his tales of an Aussie experience.

  • Barbu [Pleasure Gardens]

This internationally acclaimed and critically favoured circus production is labelled one of the must-sees of Fringe. Irreverent talent, surrounded by electro music, and more.

  • Three Course Comedy [Hellenic Club WA]

A mix of three of the country’s top emerging stand up comedians. Sold out shows in other locations. An eclectic mix, sure to please. As seen on MTV, ABC’s Comedy Up Late, SBS’s RAW Comedy and WTV’s The Leak.

  • DANCE at the Cathedral [St George’s Cathedral]

Watch some of the most impressive Aussie born dancers, perform under the guidance of renowned choreographers, whilst… enjoying the ambience of one of Perth’s most sacred venues – St Georges Cathedral? Yes, please.

  • Matt Hale: Comedy Hypnotist

A rock-out success of other Fringe Festivals, this show has been given a must-see status. Choose to spectate or participate, the choice is yours.

Winner of 3 national comedy awards, Matt has hypnotised people all over the world from London to Vegas (where even Mike Tyson told him “You are AMAZING!”. He’s appeared in media as diverse as the UK’s tabloids, BBC, ABC, & has filmed shows with Channel 9 and Channel 7.

  • Comedians vs Rappers [Multiple Venues]

Boasting previous sold out shows, with each session featuring something different. Watch as some of the best in each genre, try to “skillfully out crazy” the opposing team, in what proves to be a barrel of laughs.

  • A Summers Night in Paris [Babushka]

Desire something a little more refined, yet cheeky and bashful. Welcome the beautiful songstress and ethereal singing voice of Catherine Summers. The UK born artist mixes up the old world, with cool jazz and French classics.

Get lost with a mix of dance, performance and burlesque.

  • 6 Quick Dick Tricks: A Dirk Darrow Investigation [The Shambles]

What is described as a mind-blowing mentalist, watch Tim Motley collide with danger in a film-noir murder mystery adventure. Include comedic touches, and all your senses are tickled.

  • Velvet [The West Australian Spiegeltent]

After defying, delighting and spellbinding international audiences, this headline act, is definitely given a gold label in this year’s Fringe. Paying homage to the disco age, it has glamour, acrobatics, masterful music, and an all-round dazzling performance.
