I have rapidly realised, over the last two years of music journalism, that the WA music scene has a staggering depth. Truly, it’s undeniable. The sheer breadth of genre and style borders on the ridiculous, and I often come away from gigs of acts I had never previously heard of before, saying to myself, “Holy shit. That was completely insane. And brilliant.”
RTRFM 92.1 has proudly dedicated itself to unearthing the seemingly boundless depths of West Australian sound for a crazy forty years this year, and thus, round twenty-four of their music festival In The Pines is scheduled to be a big one. The stunning UWA Somerville Auditorium will play host once again, providing a beautiful environment to enjoy ten fantastic hours of music with friends, food and drink to your heart’s content. It is here, on April 30th of 2017, that fans will be able to see some of their favourite WA acts take the stage and impress them all over again – acts such as the highly kinetic Love Junkies, Freo hip-hop outfit POW! Negro, punk beasts RAG N’ BONE, and the furious (and aptly named) Hideous Sun Demon.
In The Pines is a much-loved celebration of all that is West Australian in music today. Tickets are just $30, an utter steal for a truly stellar day out. You won’t want to miss this, I guarantee it.
