Introducing the FEM BOOK CLUB, a monthly event where books written by women about women will be the heart of conversation! With a focus on works by women of colour, transgender and non-binary identifying writers, and women suffering from mental illnesses, the Fem Book Club will use one text a month to navigate a discussion on assumed ‘womanhood’ and what it means to be a woman. April’s book for the club is: The Faraway Nearby by Rebecca Solnit! If you’ve ever dreamed of an all-inclusionary space where you can read books, the diverse experiences of being a, or identifying as, a woman, then Centre for Stories has got you covered. RSVP now!

Stella Donnelly AKA Your Local Girl Who Plays Cool Folk Music, Has Great Hair and Likes to Keep It Real, has made and recorded some songs onto some tapes! Stella will be bringing her pals (Shit Narnia, BOAT SHOW and Lewis Rice O’Donnell) around to The Bird and playing some tunes from her latest EP ‘Thrush Metal’. As part of the 2017 Revealed Exhibition featuring over 75 new and emerging Aboriginal artists, ‘Our Story, Your Story’ gives you the opportunity to be a part of vital Aboriginal artist-led conversations. These refreshing conversations will examine the importance of diversity and representation within art and culture across communities and regions in WA, as well as reveal ever-growing insights into Aboriginal artistic expression. One of the most anticipated days of KickstART Festival, KickstART Festival Day is a day of celebrating and showcasing some of WA’s young creatives! WEEK 2: 10TH – 16TH
The A&R Department presents a night of hip hop with ZVNE, a 22-year-old alternative rap and hip hop artist with a recently released single ‘Stay Quiet’; and 27 Seconds, a hip hop trio consisting of two rappers and a producer. Head to the intimate quarters of Bar Four5Nine to get cosy and hear these up-n-coming Perth artists lay some tracks that’ll open your mind…

Starting as a mere celebration of Fremantle’s local busking culture, the Fremantle International Street Arts Festival has become one of the world’s best street theatres. From the 13th – 17th April, the streets of Freo will be transformed into an open-air theatre with buskers, street theatre, music, roving performers and ticketed shows taking the street-turned-stage! WEEK 3: 17TH – 23RD
Some smooth and original sounds are coming to your ears on the third Monday of this month, courtesy of Geordie Bain Quintet and Kate Pass Kohesia Ensemble! The quintet will be bringing the sax and harmonies dancing between the lines of pop and jazz. The Kohesia Ensemble will be infusing Persian music into jazz, with the help of some Persian instruments! This night will definitely be kicking everything you know about jazz to the curb and bringing in something entirely new and exciting…
Brought to you by Amnesty International WA, the Human Rights Night Market will be up and running for its second year! With the market’s focus on human rights, there will be interactive stalls from organisations such as the Fremantle Foundation and the Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees as well as indigenous art and cultural performances filling the Piazza. If you’re passionate about defending human rights and indigenous culture, this is the place to show your support!
The dynamic and lively POW! Negro are back with another crisp single, ‘Money For Portraits’! This year has already been a hectic year for the six-piece genre-bending band who has played a selection of live shows; recently added to GTM’s ‘Fresh Produce’ line-up, these boys are getting all the (well-deserved) limelight. Supporting the single launch are ZIGGY and Henry Kissinger. Get sweaty and rowdy as POW! brings their latest single to life.
The Literary Youth Festival (LYF) is the first youth-led literary festival in WA! Part of the KickstART Festival, the lit fest aims to highlight the voices of our young poets, writers, playwrights, bloggers and performers. Once More with Avenoir is a collaboration between LYF and Avenoir that documents the festival. The book, published immediately after LYF, will include creative works, photos, and a reflection on the past, present and future of LYF. Come down to Paper Mountain to launch the Book of LYF with us! WEEK 4: 24TH – 30TH
Fresh and dreamy rock band Wooly Mammoth has gifted us with the arrival of their latest release, ‘Arrival’! Back from touring with The Hunting Birds, and playing alongside Andy Bull, the Mammoth’s are rising fast. Joining Wooly Mammoth on their single launch are Demon Days, Noah Dillon, Michael Dunstan, with TucanTango DJ’s spinnin’ the decks til late!
Introducing the inaugural Blow Flys Ball! A time warp of music will take you from the blues days to rock-n-roll to the full psychedelic experience and then some. The line-up is a killer one with The Southern River Band, Datura4, Old Blood, The Floors, The Durongs and Yomi Ship taking the stage at one time or another.
