Spoken Word Perth and The Laundry Man present together the return of SOUND PAPER, a night where music and poetry intertwine. Founded by The Laundry Man himself in 2015, Sound Paper sees the raw and honest that is spoken word poetry merging with live music, creating sounds you’ll need to hear to believe. If you’ve got some fresh words you’d like to share, there will be 10 open mic spots available. Entry is only $5 for a night that will definitely take you somewhere new.
In Wade Taylor’s latest exhibition, “Fertile, Free”, the emerging Perth artist takes us through empty landscapes and abandoned places in order to explore the charged nature of the Vacant. In these spaces, Taylor focuses on the energy left by human presence (or lack of). The exhibition continues from 22nd July — 5th August.
Salary started as Celery, a solo bedroom pop project by Sean Gorman. Throw in a name change and bunch of misfits from Freo and Perth, and you’ve now got a nine-piece band who graces our local music scene with “weird pop music”. With supporting acts from indie-poppers Young Robin, cool humans Pool Boy, Chief Richards, and Moon Puppy Blues, what’s not to love?
Up-and-coming Perth band Raksha has put together an EP filled with their most harmonious and delicious tracks. Their tunes are a sweet, sweet blend of rock, reggae, and jazz, with energy unlike any other. They’ve also got a line-up of killer supports: Edie Green, FUZZ TOADS, MAJUMBA, EDDE, Neve Cunningham, and yen.co will have your body groovin’ from start to finish. Follow the music all the way to Mojos and let loose. It’s going to be good.
24th July, 3pm | Pokémon GO Pub Crawl | Perth City & Northbridge
What do you get when you mix Pokémon Go with alcohol? A really fun time, that’s what. Pokémon Go Perth and AFK Events have decided to make dreams into reality with a pub crawl that will have us wandering through Perth City and Northbridge searching for Pokémon between drinks. Details are still in the works, but sit tight and make sure you’ve at least clicked ‘interested’ on their event page to stay up-to-date.
The Sad Girls Collective is a female-led collection of artists, writers, makers, doers, which aims to be the least exclusive club ever. These girls believe in heart and creating a space for under-represented artists to share their work. The Sad Girls Co. launch will be an intimate evening of live music and poetry readings brought to you by your local sad girls. Bring a cushion and blanket, and nestle yourself in this safe space; you’ll feel softer by the end of it.
