12th April, 1pm-9pm | Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day 2016 | Nationwide | FREE
Even if you’re paying an arm and a leg for a tub of gourmet ice-cream, it still tastes delicious. So naturally, when it’s free, the taste-factor skyrockets! That being said, make sure to treat yourself early this week with Ben & Jerry’s international celebration, Free Cone Day. Ever since 1979, B&J have been returning the ice-cream fuelled love by blessing us with God’s greatest creation: free ice-cream. Make sure you head to their site to feed your excitement, find your closest scoop shop and choose the amazing flavour you’ll soon devour.
Often we find ourselves in awe and wonder at children’s carefree ideas and innovation. For a lucky few, this rare ability stays with them throughout their youth, no matter what obstacles they experience on the way. Utilising this valuable talent is the City of Rockingham, who are providing a platform for young creative thinkers to voice their ideas for an upcoming local street youth festival. Even if you’re not too fussed on the ideas themselves, it’s worth making the drive down, cause hey, there’s free tacos!
Our Australian university life hardly resembles the glorified American college experience, but we can try to mimic it with our very own ‘Spring Break’ party at the Curtin Tav. Like always there will be a killer line-up, with J Heasy, Meet Mark, Adrian Franchina and Ellictt on the Guild Stage and Slice n Dice, Jason Duffin, Marto and the National Campus DJ Comp on the Tav Stage. Helping out our bank accounts, they’ve got $7 Swan Draught, Teds and 5 Seeds Cider pints as well as a glass of sparking wine for $4. However, our favourite part of Curtin Tav bashes is our lord and saviour, George’s Kebabs, which will be open for our midnight munchies.
When festivals are rocking through Northbridge’s Perth Cultural Centre, we know we’re in for a treat, and KickstART Festival Day is no exception. With the KickstART Markets, KickstART Zone, Kicktech Zone and Kickback Zone, there’ll be plenty of food to eat, goodies to buy, music to listen to, games to play and workshops to enjoy. Whether you’re keen on science, technology, the arts or just simply chilling, there’s something to make you’re Saturday that bit more enjoyable.
Perth’s writing and publishing community may be small but it’s an incredibly wonderful community that’s slowly making its mark. In its second year, Fresh Prints is bringing together writers and editors of all forms and genres to showcase our state’s awesome independent publishes and creative works, like zines, artist books, comics and printed works. Run by the Centre for Stories, there will be comic, water colour painting and collaging workshops for all to attend, no matter your creative background or age. So do something different this Saturday, head out and let your creative juices flow.
17th April, 11am-9pm | Let’s Sagra! An Italian Traditional Food Fest in Fremantle | King’s Square, Fremantle | FREE
Pretty sure everyone loves Italian cuisine, right? I mean you’ve got pizza, which 99.9% of the global population would marry, plus pasta, and gelato, and bruschetta, and Limoncello and the list goes on! So having an entire day dedicated to Italian food is going to be a-maz-ing! It isn’t just about the food though. “Sagra” in Italian is used to describe get togethers during the summertime that bring all the generations together while also enjoying different meals and traditions from other local Italian towns. Kinda sweet bringing this concept into little old Freo.
